Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day Celebrations at Holy Child school, Panchkula

It has been rightly said that grandparents are those with silver in their hair and gold in their hearts.

Holy Child School, Panchkula celebrated Grand Parents Day on October 09, 2015.

The festive event provides HCS students with the opportunity to honor the contributions made by their special grandparents in their lives while also allowing grandparents to join them at school and find out more about the programs and opportunities offered by the school. Well over 100 grandparents participated in this year’s Grandparents Day celebration.

Mr.R.S Mittal, senior most lawyer at High Court, was the Chief guest on the occasion. Mr. S.D. Bhambri, IAS (Retd) and Ms. Neena Trehan, Chairperson, Holy Child School were the guests of Honour.

A special programme  put up by  the students of Kindergarten and classes1,2, and 3 was held at  the School Amphitheatre.  Principal Sangeeta Sharma formally welcomed the grandparents and eminent guests.

Once the felicitations were in place, the emphatic speeches and the welcome songs paved the way for the beautiful program to commence. The students presented various songs, poems, skits and dances to impress their valued mentors. The main idea highlighted through the performances was the appreciation of values, motivation and inspiration that children draw from their grandparents. The vibrancy of the dances put up was such that the grandparents were overwhelmed and joined the students on the stage to match their steps.

The thrill of various fun games played transported our guests of senior years to their young and carefree days and they connected with their grandchildren as if they were one with them. . Few grandparents took this opportunity to share their experiences with the gathering and added value to the event with their participation.

“Role of grandparents is very significant-they are the first school of their grandchildren, they need to be up with the times to equip their grandchildren to face the competitive world and instill nationalism in them” said Mr. Bhambri in his address. Speaking on the occasion, Mr R. S. Mittal lauded the role of school in providing the moral values to each child. “Team Holy child is doing a brilliant job in instilling moral values in its children. It is heartening to see a school so passionate about the character building of their students” said Mr. Mittal.

Chairperson Ms. Neena Trehan summed up the significance of Grandparent’s Day as she addressed the audience saying, "Grandparent’s Day is important to HCS as it allows our students to keep things in perspective; in the years to come, our students will always fondly remember the day that their grandparents got to visit them and spend precious time with them here at the school."

The event was a great success and it concluded with the blessings of all the grandparents and elders present and with the hope that they continue to enrich our lives with the valuable contributions that emerge from their experiences.

Aayo Laayen Acchaay Din a Holy Child School Initiative

As the school was involved in its preparations for the Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations and the significance of " Achhey Din" , animated  discussions seemed to be raging amongst the students  and teachers alike . Myriad options on the significance of Achhey Din were voiced , from different perspectives till a declaration was made that something must be done to bring about Achhey Din , the first step must be taken in the interest of our society and our nation, in accord with the vision of our Prime Minister .

The enthusiastic response of the senior students , based on their sharp observations of the current state of society , to take up the initiative and bring about a change in society , surprised the teachers.

The school authorities thought of taking it forward to spread the message of bringing about a change in the minds of people to act more responsibly to bring about a change to usher in 'Achhey Din', essentially an initiative of our children.

The school helped to organise an event to that effect.

The Deputy Commissioner , Panchkula and the Advisor to the Chief Administrator of U.T. were highly impressed when we approached them to bless this initiative of our students,  gave their whole hearted support to the idea and consented to flag off the event in Panchkula and Chandigarh , respectively.

To bring about an awareness to change our attitudes and habits for betterment of our civic sense, our students visited general public at vantage points , such as UT Secretariat , sector 9 ; Chandigarh Railway Station ; Mini Secretariat , Panchkula ; General Hospital , Sector 6, Panchkula and Sector 16 , Chandigarh ; Bus Terminus in Sector 17 and 43 , Chandigarh , as well as Sector 5 , Panchkula ; and the Civil Courts of Sector 17 , Chandigarh .
